The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Anger Regarding Sizing Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has updated its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category than originally posted due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with other platforms.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Changes
Before the change, the measurements included one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Another user, located in Scotland, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she explained.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: previously, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
