The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
